Why water supply interruptions are possible during power outages at pumping stations

Currently, some water pumping stations of the "Infoxvodokanal" branch continue to face emergency power outages. As a result, during power outages, consumers are temporarily left without water supply.

To address this situation and ensure water supply during power outages, modern diesel generators have been installed at several water utility pumping stations where capacity allows.

However, the use of autonomous power sources does not guarantee the uninterrupted water supply that "Infoxvodokanal" consumers are accustomed to, raising the question: why can water still be unavailable? This is explained by the technological conditions under which pumping stations operate. Any equipment stoppage, even after a short power outage, and the subsequent switch to backup power from a generator require some time. The pumping station needs to restart, and additional time is required to fill the city pipelines with water.

A similar pause in water supply occurs when switching back from generator power to the main electrical grid. Any deviation from the technological requirements during this process may lead to emergency situations in the water supply network. Moreover, there are cases when the generators themselves fail and require maintenance.

Regarding the water supply to residents of the former "Lenselyshche" district, the pumping station serving this area is equipped with a generator of appropriate capacity. Since November 17, 2024, the generator has been operating to provide water to residents, but over the past two days, interruptions in its operation have occurred. These issues are being promptly addressed by company specialists. Additionally, unscheduled maintenance of the generator and its mechanisms will be conducted shortly.

We appeal to consumers to understand situations where, during power outages and the use of generators, water may not be available immediately. In turn, "Infoxvodokanal" employees continue to work around the clock, 24/7, to ensure the city always has access to water.
